Cape Cod Canal

This is really just a quick overview of the Cape Cod Canal based on my visit to the Scenic Park
campground May 2011 and the Railway station park where there was a Fall Stripper Cup 2010.

The railroad bridge is an amazing structture that 2 times a day the elevator of the bridge comes down for the train to pass to get trash. Later in the evening there is a dinner train for Cape Cod that runs the Canal the trip goes through Bourne Mass and the Buzzards Bay area of Bourne also. The little town where the railway bridge is located is Buzzards Bay.

The town of Buzzards Bay is right at the Bridge and there is a beautiful Train Station that is use for a Tourist Center.

The structures that make up the Train Station have a style that makes me think of Frank Lloyd Wright's design for so many of his Prarie style architecture. This specific example has a roof and the overhang that reminds me of his style and also a beautiful old California look like a mission style. If you take a look at the Coronado Hotel you can see some of the similarities.
The Bourne Bridge is in Bourne.  The Bourne Bridge is one of the only two bridges to the Cape Cod. It is also the route that we take to go to the National Cemetary to visit my parents in Bourne.
When we drive to Truro and Providencetown for our vacation or to fish Race Point we take the Sagamore Bridge.  The most famous I think the most used is the Bourne.  This year Colleen was for the first time, on Cape Cod with me. We drove over the bridge to go Kayaking.

Here a tugboat is passing under the bridge near our campsite. The Bourne Scenic Park area is very special because is has the Canal trail that is a wide paved trail on the property so that we could just jump on with our skates or our bikes.

Daniel Lowe & Co and the First Church of Salem

Here is a pic of a building in Salem at the cross roads near an Army Navy store and the road that leads to the PEM.  The Restaraunt is called Rockefellers and it was in an old Church from 1700s and a storefront. It was also a bank and a jewelry store. Now at the restaurant they also do Theater it makes sense.  The Oysters and the beer were great. Its funny that the waiter couldnt find out where they got their oysters.

Man Ray at the PEM

This painting now means so much more to me as I know that Man Ray was using Lee Millers lips for his heartfelt inspirations

Today I went to Salem Mass and visited the PEM, Peabody Essex Museum.  It was much more intense that I had remembered or imagined.

The exhibit was amazing. Man Ray is an important artist for me especially during the times when I was in photography and when I am working on anything I remember his diversity and technical approach to creating his artistic style.

The lips were his lovers lips Lee she also became a photograher after their love had tapered off.  He was a much older man and they worked together as Model and photographer and then she began her own photography career.
Went to an Army Navy store, classic Comic store and a restaurant called Rockerfellers.
I can add more later. The exhibit had lots of letters and pictures from both Lee Miller and from Man Ray.  The letters of love from Man Ray to Lee Miller touch my heart.  He was in love with her and she had chosen to move on in her life to start her own studio and then to go into the war and become a wartime photographer. In the notes about Lee it said that she was emotionally stressed with the work at the warfront and eventually discontinued it. It also mentioned how she battled depression.  This scared me. I imagined Lee sad and isolated in her life and Man Ray wanting to save her.  He was most likely a hero for her but she needed to be her own boss.

I have seen one of the Man Ray photos at MFA Modernist photography exhibit.
